Hockey participation overview

Hockey is the 3rd most popular team sport amongst females, and the 14th most popular physical activity.  However, participation in hockey has been declining over the past few years.

Hockey has the most equal female to male ratio of all Sport England funded sports – approximately 1 female for every male. 

Hockey is also one of a handful of sports where 16-19 year old participation is proportionally higher for women than it is for men.

Hockey is most popular among women in the South West and South East. London has the lowest hockey levels – as is the case for most sports.
