GoGirl of the Day...
Our GoGirl of the day award is voted by @wsff_uk’s twitter followers and goes to the woman (or women) who have best captured the spirit of Gogirl and has ensured that women's sport excites, inspires and unites women and girls.
There are so many inspirational women performing miracles every hour at the Games and we can’t capture them all but our Gogirl of the day will capture the very best!
So far we have the following winners...
#1 Steph Houghton for scoring an incredible free kick for Team GB against New Zealand and ensuring the women's football team opened the Games with a win.
#2 Steph Houghton again - not for THAT free kick but for being on the front of most papers and ensuring women's football got more coverage in a day than it usually does in a month.
#3 The first women from Qatar, Brunei and Saudi Arabia to ever march at the opening ceremony as they ensured that every nation is represented by a woman at the Games for the very first time.
#4 Helen Glover and Heather Stanning in the Women's Pair for an incredible record beating performance in their heat as they start their attempt to be the first women ever to win rowing gold for Team GB
#5 Lizzie Armitstead for winning silver in the rain in the Women's Road Race. Team GB's first medal at the London Olympics ensuring she is the answer to a pub quiz question as well as an inspiration to thousands of girls.
#6 Ruta Meilutyte - the 15 year old Plymouth schoolgirl who won Lithuania's first ever swimming medal by capturing gold in the 100-meter breaststroke. She then captured our hearts with her astonished reaction which epitomised the phrase "speechless".
#7 After 4 days of gruelling Eventing Mary King, Tina Cook, Nicola Wilson & Zara Phillips were 4/5ths of the team which won silver after pushing the Germans so close. Oh and some guy called William Fox-Pit helped a bit too ;o).
#8 British women's first ever rowing gold! The Women's Pair of Helen Glover and Heather Stanning backed up Saturday's qualifying performance with an equally impressive win. GBs first gold of London 2012.
#9 An astonishing series of fights from Gemma Gibbons to win silver (GBs first judo medal for 12 years). It included last second victories, golden point ippons and all against higher ranked opponents.

#11 Jess Ennis. Enough said!
