Trophy Women 2013
This is the fourth Trophy Women? report produced by the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation in partnership with our Commission on the Future of Women's Sport. The report, once again, highlights the worryingly low levels of female representation across national governing body (NGB) Boards
and senior management teams.
Since the publication of the first Trophy Women? report in 2009, there have been only incremental improvements in the proportion of female Board Members within NGBs and in senior management roles. In 2009, women made up only 21% of the Board Members within NGBs. This had risen to 22% by the 2011/12 report but this year, and despite the huge success of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, women still
make up only 22% of the total number of Board Members. Disappointingly, there are six publicly funded sports which have no women at all on their Board.
The report includes a full leadership audit of 57 NGBs, including those funded by Sport England and UK Sport*.
Commenting on the report, Secretary of State
for Culture, Media and Sport and Minister for Women Maria Miller said:
"British women led the way in the Olympic and Paralympic Games with a gold rush
of medals. But there is still some way to go to improve the representation of
women in sports' governing bodies' boardrooms. Sports get public money to
target both men and women to participate and this aim will be better served
with a good gender balance at the top. I will push to see this issue addressed
in the years to come and keep up the momentum from London 2012, encouraging
more women to get involved in sport."

*Out of the 57 NGBs, 20 are jointly funded, 27 are funded solely by Sport England and 10 are funded solely by UK Sport. England Athletics also receives funding from Sport England through UK Athletics. Women make up 20% of England Athletics' board.
