More Leading Women in Athletics for London 2017
More women could be given a number of leadership positions in athletics should London be successful in their bid to host the 2017 World Athletics Championships. The London 2017 bid team have launched the Women in World Athletics programme, which aims to inspire the most promising young women from the athletics arena to progress in leadership roles.
Such positions include technical officials who play a vital role in developing athletics communities around the world. The programme is a 5 year initiative beginning in May 2012 and will identify 50 potential female officials and leaders from the world of athletics, of whom 15 will be selected as officials and volunteers for the Championships.
The London 2017 London Olympic Committee has committed over $400,000 of funding to the Women in World Athletics programme in a bid to encourage more women to get involved in the sport and inspire them to develop promising careers in athletics.
