I’ve been working with WSFF since 2008. My day-to-day role is quite varied – ranging from Executive Assistant duties, to managing the office, to HR and also finance. So I’m always on my toes!
What has your career involved before WSFF?
I’ve always had a passion for travel and sport. After school I worked as a travel agent for 12 years. Then I moved into the sport sector with a role at SportCal, a one-stop online shop for the sports sector.
If you could change 1 thing to have a positive impact on women and girls' activity levels, what would it be?
I would reduce the impact of negative body image on females. Everything seems to start when girls are so young. We need to change perceptions of body image and celebrate fit and healthy girls and women with new role models and the help of the media.
How does being active make you feel?
Being active is a great escape from work and other things in my life. It gives me loads more energy and the opportunity to get outdoors and make new friends - especially with team sports like netball and bowls.
Favourite sport or physical activity
I love to play bowls as it is relaxed and is a great place to meet friends and new people.
Most memorable sporting moment
South Africa’s Rugby World Cup win in 1995.
Who do you admire and why?
Natalie du Toit (South African swimmer) competed in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. In 2001 her left leg was amputated at the knee and has since won a number of medals in multi-disability swimming events Olympic and Commonwealth Games. In 2003, she made a mark in the world of swimming by winning a gold medal in the 800m able-bodied freestyle swimming event at the All-Africa Games. I think she’s an inspiration to women for her courageous spirit.
